Life has intruded on my drama watching this past week and, as a result, I am seriously behind. The struggle is real 😉
However, I did start and finish The East Palace (Netflix). I very much enjoyed this horror inflected, historical action/drama which, over the course of eight episodes, successfully combines shamanism and traditional Korean folklore with palace politics and power grabs.
I’ll admit, as a horror girlie, I came for the Gwi world and I loved how it was brought to life. Click here for my full review of The East Palace.
I also started Overdo (Viki) this week. What in the car crash / fever dream is this show? And why am I still watching? I wonder if things will settle soon or if I will adjust to the drama’s tone.
It might all come down to how much I love Zhang Ling He and Wang Chu Ran.
I am almost at the end of Love For You (Viki) and have adored this show from start to finish. Yes there is noble idiocy (a trope I usually hate) and a mafia gang / tax fraud storyline that I am not particularly interested in… but, I am just so invested in Chen Yi (Song Wei Long) and Miao Jing (Zhang Jing Yi). I love them.
I am slowly catching up with Blossoms of Power (Viki) and am still very much enjoying He Yu’s performance. His character is the dictionary definition of "he falls first". Looking forward to giving this show my full attention once Love for You concludes.
I am one episode away from finishing The Wonderfools (Netflix). I will be sad to say goodbye to this chaotic found family. They are so endearing and have really made me laugh.
I continued Strong Girl Bong Soon (Netflix) this week and still cannot quite adjust to this show’s tone. It’s giving me whiplash! I am rather bewildered by the “mafia” storyline, don't like how violence is played for laughs and the serial killer plot feels out of place. I love the central relationship though – they are so super cute.
